I’m just your everyday wife who is very addicted to all different types of Romance Novels. As long as there is a love interest, no matter how subtle, I’m willing to give it a shot. I have over 700 books that I’ve read and marked up but never reviewed so I’m just chipping away the pile and posting reviews.
For me a story is all about the characters. I don’t get hung up on editing or grammatical errors unless they are overly plentiful and I’m willing to overlook some world building errors as long as the story stays true to the characters.
What I can never make myself overlook, however are inconsistent character personalities- they tend to pull my interest from a story in short order. I don’t mean minor changes that can be credited to personal growth or adaptation to circumstances. I mean drastic changes that make to character seem as though they are a patchwork of situations instead of a complete person.
Character depth and fluid dialog go a long way to make up for issues caused by an authors inexperience and any of the perils of self publishing. At least is does in my opinion…
